Hi All,
I hope you are all staying safe and well. I’m reaching out to ask for your help finding examples of the following in North American cities:
Sustainable agriculture projects in floodplains in urban areas , and/or
Sustainable agriculture projects on city-owned land.
Sustainable agriculture projects could include for-profit farms, non-profit farms, community gardens, food forests, or others.
I am conducting research to help the City of Austin explore the potential to utilize floodplain buyout lands for sustainable agriculture projects that bring about community benefits and prioritize equity. I am looking for precedents so that we can learn from the successes and challenges of operating this type of project on publicly-owned and/or floodplain land. This research is also part of my studies as a graduate student in Community and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at Austin.
I would be most grateful if you could send me any ideas and contacts that you know of at sari.albornoz@austintexas.gov by Friday, May 15th.
Thank you so much for your help!
Best,
Sari
